How to choose a quality sanitizer that you can work with safely? How to choose an efficient and safe product, which is also accepted by the authorities?
With the restart of the economy and implicitly of the beauty salons, I would like to come to your aid with a short and practical checklist for making the decision: What kind of hand sanitizer or hand sanitizer to use? Below we have listed some things to follow and check for these products. Follow your list below and you will surely make a correct, beneficial and safe decision for yourself and your clientele!
1. It must have an alcohol content of 70-75%, but no more
Choose a product with an amount of approximately 70-75% alcohol, no more! According to studies conducted in this field, the optimal amount of ethyl alcohol for the disinfecting effect of the product is 70%. The statement is not true: the higher the alcohol concentration, the more effective a disinfectant you have. Why is that? In order for alcohol to exert its destructive effect on microorganisms, a contact time is required. If the alcohol is too concentrated, it evaporates faster, reducing the contact time with microorganisms, which is detrimental to its effectiveness. It seems strange, but the presence of water is necessary to prevent the short-term evaporation of alcohol, thus prolonging the contact time and increasing the destruction efficiency of ethyl alcohol. So you should look for a hand sanitizer with 70% ethyl alcohol.
2. It must be based on ethanol
Use an ethanol-based sanitizer (ethyl-alcohol), because it is more effective than an isopropyl alcohol-based product. Isopropyl alcohol evaporates faster, thus reducing contact time and has a weaker disinfectant effect. That's why you should look for a product based on ethyl alcohol.
3. How does alcohol destroy microorganisms?
Ethyl alcohol penetrates the cell wall, disintegrates cell membranes, denatures cellular proteins. A similar thing happens when you make simple stitches in the kitchen. Due to alcohol, cellular proteins are transformed into a non-vital mass without the ability to perform normal cell functions. Ethyl alcohol is effective against Gram-negative bacteria, generally against vegetative forms of bacteria, against lipophilic viruses. Although the use of sanitizer based on ethyl alcohol is recommended, it should be emphasized in parentheses that it is not effective against parasites and sporulated bacteria.
4. It needs to be tested in a certified laboratory
it is important to choose a product tested in an accredited laboratory. It also protects you for 2 reasons: you do not spend money on well-presented products, but which do not have any document, which proves their effectiveness + it is crucial to use a safe product, which does not give allergic reactions and effective against microorganisms, which protects your customers. Request laboratory tests / efficacy tests from the manufacturer without any discussion. We, those who produce such products are obliged to present this document to you upon request. Do not dwell on thoughts, it is normal and natural to prove the effectiveness of the product before purchasing it.
5. It should be reigstered too
Be careful: in your salon you must use a sanitizer not only tested, but also registered. Do not buy any sanitizing product or biocide without proper documents. Not worth it. You are also safe from the authorities, if you can present the documents below: If it is a cosmetic sanitizer, it must be registered on the European Cosmetic Portal. In this case, the Notification of the European Cosmetic Portal is issued. If it is a biocidal product, you must receive a marketing authorization issued by the Institute of Public Health in Bucharest. Please do not spend money on a product without these documents, because it is not known what you put on your skin and that of customers.
6. Gel=Economic. You get to spend less.
Buy a product in the form of a gel, but the gel should be the consistency of a freshly prepared pudding. It should be neither too dense nor too liquid. How to check this After applying on a finger, the gel should remain intact for 5-10 seconds, after which it will "melt". A product like this is more economical, as such you do not waste your money.
I hope you enjoyed it and found it useful.
